Patty Sones Celebrates 50 Years with Eye Associates

As long as most can remember, Patty Sones has been dispensing, repairing and adjusting glasses at the Eye Associates Group’s office. On November 15th, 2010 Patty Sones reached a milestone that many never attain. She has worked for the Eye Associates Group, LLC for 50 years.

Patty began working for the practice in 1960 for Dr. R. Lewis Scott. At the time, the office was located uptown at the 220 W. Main Street in Hartford City.  Patty has worked as a technician and dispensing optician for the practice all of these years and she moved with the Eye Associates Group to 315 Huggins Drive location in Hartford City in 1996. Patty received the Indiana Optometric Association’s “Paraoptometric of the Year” Award in 1992.

“When I got out of high school, I was going to work for a year and then go to college, but after starting work with Dr. Scott in 1960, I really enjoyed helping the patients select their eyewear and learning the eye care business.  I liked Dr. Scott’s expectations of high quality for the patients and that high quality has continued throughout the years for the eye exam, eyewear and now technology that are available,” Patty stated.

Patty has been with the practice longer than even the current doctors. Dr. Richard Windsor joined the practice in 1973, then Dr. Craig Ford in 1983 and Dr. Laura Windsor in 2001. Dr. Scott, whom Patty had worked with for 40 years retired in 2000 and he and his wife have since moved to California to be closer to their daughter.

Patty prides herself on professional service and caring about the patients that she helps. Patty has dispensed eyewear for patients of all ages from infants to seniors. She also dispenses and trains patients with vision loss how to use their high powered reading eyewear, magnifiers, telescopes, and video magnifiers.

Patty is also a loving mother and grandmother. She is the mother of Jeff Sones (wife, Bernie) and the proud grandmother of Brodie and Jaycie Sones.  For those who know Patty, she has been a lifelong Elvis fan. She loves to do yard work and spend time with her family.

As for retiring, Patty states, “I am looking forward to continue working as long as I can and as I cut back, I look forward to spending time with my family and reconnecting with old friends.”

On November 8th, 2010, the doctors and staff held an open house to recognize her great accomplishments and all of her hard work for the practice. Many local residents came to show their appreciation for her service all of these years.
